Realtek Demonstrates Automatic Power Saving Technologies For Wired/Wireless Networks During 2010 CES

HSINCHU, Taiwan – January 07, 2010 –Realtek Semiconductor Corp. (Taiwan Stock Exchange: 2379.TW), one of the world’s leading network and multimedia IC providers, will be demonstrating multiple wired and wireless networking solutions that incorporate new ‘Green’ power-saving technologies that automatically reduce power consumption by up to 80%.

Traditional networking devices transmit at 100% full power, regardless of the user environment. In real user scenarios this amount of power is rarely required. Realtek’s automatic power-saving technologies enable solutions that conserve energy by recognizing the actual user scenario and adjusting the power accordingly in relation to distance, data traffic, and link status, and with no loss of performance. Our automatic power-saving technologies are integrated into our widely-adopted Network Interface Controllers (NIC) and Switch Controllers, as well as our Wireless Networking ICs.

“With today’s focus on reducing carbon footprints, as well as on longer battery life in mobile devices, we are proud to introduce automatic ‘Green’ technology. As the need to manually change power settings to reduce power has been automated, Realtek network devices will run at the minimum power consumption out of the box”, said Realtek’s Executive Vice President Jessy Chen. “With one of the lowest plug-and-play power consumptions in the industry, we could, for example, enable a very low power or power over USB 802.11n wireless router device”.

During 2010 CES, Realtek will be located in the Las Vegas Hilton. Email tracy_ho@realtek.com to arrange a demonstration.
